October 17, 1933 ~ August 19, 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Obituary

In loving memory of Mr. Oscar D. Patterson, Sr., born on October 17, 1933, in Adel, GA, to the proud parents
of the late Mr. Fred Patterson and the late Ms. Willie Beatrice Rainge. He came into this world as a blessing,
the cherished baby boy of their union. His birth marked the beginning of a life that would touch countless
hearts and leave an indelible mark on the world around him.
As he embarked on his journey of education, Oscar attended Cook County Training School, where he found
his passion on the football field. With an incredible talent and a fierce determination, he excelled as a running
back, capturing the hearts of his peers and mentors. His prowess in the game was a testament to his
dedication and hard work, qualities that would become hallmarks of his character.
It was during his school years that Oscar's path intertwined with that of the love of his life, Ms. Yvonne
Snead. Their story began to unfold as they forged a deep connection, one that would lead them to the altar.
On May 17, 1958, surrounded by the warmth of their families and friends, they exchanged vows and embarked
on a journey of love and togetherness that would span an incredible 65 years. This union was blessed with
the birth of their three beloved children: Oscar D. Patterson, Jr., Melinda Patterson, and Veronica Patterson.
Oscar's dedication to his family was unwavering, and his role as a provider and a pillar of strength was truly
remarkable.
Oscar's faith journey was a cornerstone of his life, and he found solace and guidance at Harrell Chapel
Missionary Baptist Church. His commitment was evident through his role as the Chairman of the Deacon
Board, where he shared his spiritual wisdom and led devotional services that resonated deeply with all who
had the privilege of experiencing them. His joyful spirit was often expressed through hymns like "The Fire
Just Keep on Burning," "Oh, It’s In My Veins," and "That’s Already."
In the hearts of those who loved him, Oscar leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. His
memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife Yvonne S. Patterson, his son Oscar (Karen) Patterson,
Jr., and his daughters Melinda Patterson and Veronica Patterson, grandchildren, Oscar Patterson, III..,

Martinez Newson (Tisha), Justin Patterson, Myleack Patterson, Ashley Patterson and Asia Patterson; great-
grandchildren, Juvien Newsom, Brooklyn Newsom, Martinez Newsom, Jr., Aluadae Newsom and Junie

Patterson.
He also leaves behind his dear stepbrother Willie (Bonnie) Hill of Jacksonville, FL. The bond of family
extended to his sisters-in-law: Sadie Moreland of East Point, GA, Theresa Green of College Park, GA, and
Mary (William) Zackery of Riverdale, GA, as well as his brothers-in-law: Willie B. (JoAnn) Snead, Jr.,
Atlanta, GA, Edgar (Jackie) Snead, Sr., and Deacon Leon (Rosa) Snead, both of Lenox, GA. Among his close
kin were devoted cousins Elmer (Kathy) Clarke of Plantation, FL, and Lieutenant (Florence) Patterson of
Orlando, FL, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold him in their
hearts.
In addition, Mr. Oscar Patterson's parents, Mr. Fred Patterson and Ms. Willie Beatrice Rainge, brother, Mr.
Alfred Patterson, sister, Ms. Trellie Patterson, and grandson, Desmond Patterson, all predeceased him.

same dedication, passion, and grace that he exemplified throughout his remarkable journey.
