Della Pittman Obituary

Mother" Della Campbell Pittman was the ninth born child of Mr. and Mrs. Perry (Viola Smith) Campbell on August 16, 1925, in Worth County, Georgia. She was joined at birth by her twin sister, Ella. They grew up in a loving home that was anchored in God, faith filled, and family oriented

During her elementary school years, Della along with her siblings walked 9 miles to a one room schoolhouse for African Americans in Colquitt County where she received her education. After completing her education, Della entered the work force and began her career as a private cook.

In 1947, she married William David "Jab" Pittman and settled in Moultrie, Georgia. Although they ventured to Valdosta, GA, for a brief stay, they returned to Moultrie and became pillars in the community. They managed the community center in Northwest Moultrie and boarded teachers that were not local residents.

Southern cooking was her passion, and she was known for this gift which she used as a service to others in her Christian work. Later, she resumed her love for cooking and was employed by several companies including Vereen Memorial Hospital, Contracted Services of Riverside Manufacturing, Gold Leaf Restaurant, Hardee's, and Bull's Restaurant. She was one of the initial employees of Bud K Worldwide where she served as a shipping clerk and retired after many years of dedicated service. Following retirement, she pursued her second passion of caring for others and became a Certified Nursing Assistant where she served as a private caregiver until her final retirement in 2005.

At a young age, she accepted Christ, was baptized, and joined Philco Baptist Church in Colquitt, County, Georgia where she served diligently until adulthood. Atter marriage, she joined Williams Tabernacle C.M.E

Church where she actively served on several auxiliaries, the ushers' board. and was crowned Queen of the

Mammoth Tea. Later, she joined Mother Easter Baptist Church where she remained an active member until her death. She was honored in 2023 as one of the oldest members.

Her marriage produced five children, two of whom preceded her in death, Lois Barnett, and Gregory LaFayette. In addition to her parents, Della was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William David "Jab" Pittman, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Angela Joyce Pridgen-Pittman; grandson, Wesley Norris Hagan; eight sisters, Mary Broner, Jeanie Grayer, Arceola Hayes, Irene Lewis, Tazzie Branison, twin Ella Robinson, Ada Lunsford, and Doris Twiggs; three brothers, Clifford Campbell, James Campbell, and Willie Campbell.

During the early morning hours of Friday, December 20, 2024, at Emory Healthcare Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia, God in His infinite wisdom summoned His servant, Della, from labor on earth to reward in heaven.

Although we want her physical presence to remain a reality, we embrace the promise of God for eternal life for those who die in the Lord.

There are many wonderful memories for those who loved, respected and admired her. She left an impressionable legacy for all the lives she touched and changed throughout her blessed journey. Her precious memories will be cherished forever by her son, William "David" Pittman, Jr., of Moultrie, GA, two daughters, Olga R. Pittman of Jonesboro, GA; and Debra P. Pittman of Milledgeville, GA, personal care attendants, Regina Roberson and Brandon Green, both of Milledgeville, GA, a multitude of nieces and nephews that span across five remaining generations, other family members and friends.
