Born on May 18, 1937, to the late Eston and Ruby Washington, James lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service to others. A proud graduate of the Miami Northwestern High School class of 1959, James was a dedicated family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was the heart of his family gatherings, where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and bonds were strengthened. His passion for community activism led him to establish Eight helping hands, a group committed to supporting the sick, shut-in, and homeless, embodying his belief that helping others is the truest form of love. James had a profound appreciation for R&B music, with a special fondness for his favorite group, Hank Ballard and the Midnighters. His love for music was rivaled only by his devotion to the Minnesota Vikings, as he was a loyal fan who celebrated every victory with enthusiasm. An active member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend McDowell, James found purpose and fulfillment in his faith, which guided him throughout his life. It was at Piney Grove where he met the love of his life, Gerald Washington, and together they joined in holy matrimony in 1998, creating a beautiful partnership filled with love and joy. Often bringing family and friends together over his delicious meals. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family, including two sons, James L. Washington and Todd Washington; two daughters, Sharonda Washington and Miranda Washington; and 11 grandchildren: Dwayne Powell, Kiara Washington, Shell Washington, Isaiah Pendleton, Jeremiah Ezekiel, Zachariah Cassidy Washington, Shanice Henley, Amber Pope, and Jaylen Washington. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sonia Pendleton, as well as his parents, Eston and Ruby Washington, and his brothers, Robert and Lawrence Washington. James Washington will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, laughter, and unwavering spirit of service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his incredible journey.
