Joseph Hardy Wilcox, born on April 18, 1950, in Adel, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026. A proud retired Army veteran, Joseph dedicated his life to service and faith, being a faithful member of Saint James AME Church. There, he served on the Deacon board, embodying the values of leadership and community.
Joseph received his education at the Cook County Training School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with learning and growth. Known for his remarkable ability to remember special dates and holidays, he delighted family and friends with his storytelling skills, often captivating them with tales from his life. His love for watching Westerns and his big personality brought joy to those around him, and he was famous for his grilling expertise, creating many cherished memories at family gatherings.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Ruth Wilcox; his son, Victor Wilcox; and his siblings: El, Cana Crockett, Raymond Wilcox, Leroy Wilcox, Savoia Shelton, and Thelma Cohman.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Ms. Rudeen Wilcox; his sons, Anthony Woods, Kevin Belcher, Robert McCastle, and Donnie Wilcox; and his daughters, Phyllis Young (Rodney), Michelle Scruggs (Vincent), Maja Lee, Victoria Wilcox, and Chandrika Ruffin. He is also survived by his brother, John Wayne Wilcox; sisters Carolyn Walton, Mildred Pippins, Willow K. Cornelius, and Patricia White; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many beloved family and friends.
Joseph Hardy Wilcox will be remembered for his unwavering love, vibrant spirit, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he cherished.
